15 top SA artists. 5000 people. And 1 awesome Easter weekend celebration. When the Breede Valley Municipality wanted to add a fresh and exciting element to their famous annual Worcester Easter Bazaar, they asked Swey to handle the event management.
“It was definitely a huge success,” says Worcester Mayor Antoinette Steyn, “our social media was abuzz with great reviews, tags and comments long after the event.”
The Worcester Easter Bazaar is an annual cultural and religious institution for people in Worcester and the surrounding areas. And in 2018, the Breede Valley Municipality who oversees the region wanted to create a special family-orientated Easter Sunday event to add to the festivities.
They wanted to go big. A huge family music event, so big they needed a separate resort venue to host the thousands of families they wanted to attract. And they wanted to bring in a full line-up of top SA artists and MCs, too. In short, they wanted to go bigger than ever before.
That’s how the Worcester Easter Bazaar Festival – also known as the Nekkies Easter Music Festival – was born.
And to pull it off, Breede Valley Municipality brought in Swey for our expertise in event management.
The first-ever Worcester Easter Bazaar Festival took place 1 April 2018, and the second 21 April 2019 – both were managed by Swey and attracted 5000+ paying attendees.
Both events were community-focused, where families could bring their own cooler box and lay out a blanket on beautiful green lawns and enjoy an open-air concert that lasted all day, from 8am to 5pm.
These events made use of Swey’s full-service event management offering. Meaning Swey handled everything from the organisation – securing the venue, artists and vendors to developing the programme and ticketing systems – to management, including all setup, sound and stages to safety and medical, compliance and legislative requirements.
Swey also managed the artists: From booking to logistics, even catering and fulfilling on riders. As well as all the marketing, including graphic design, branding, printing and all the social media marketing. Swey even took care of all the official videography and photography for the event.
Essentially, all the mayor and her team from Breed Valley Municipality had to do was sign off on the plans and show up on the day to deliver a speech and enjoy the show.
The response from the public was incredibly positive. And the event certainly trended on social media in the region for quite a while afterwards – enough to have built up a couple of thousand-strong following, just in anticipation of the next festival.
“I contacted Wendell at Swey and thanked him personally for how Swey managed the festival. You know, managing an event of this scale and nature is not easy, because of all the legislative and compliance you have to keep to, on top of all the flexibility you need in your planning. And all this while you still have to make sure that the audience can enjoy the event to the fullest.
“And I think Swey executed all of that very professionally and successfully,” Mayor Steyn concludes.
