The famous socks. An award-winning wine brand. And coordinating ad campaigns across thousands of kilometres of ocean. When Peter Falke Wines – yes, the same people behind the famous French Falke socks – started running promotions and ads for their wines locally, they
experienced difficulty coordinating their design and printing between France and South Africa.
So, to streamline the process of executing the brand’s big ideas (all the way from France) here in SA, Peter Falke approached South African Stellenbosch-based agency Swey to handle all their graphic design.
PETER FALKE WINES
When the couple behind the famous Falke socks, German Peter Falke and French wife Daniele, bought the Groenvlei farm on the slopes of the Stellenbosch Helderberg Mountains in 1995, they created a beautifully unique boutique winery that offers awesome experiences and award-winning wines, under the Peter Falke Wines label. And soon, the need arose to start marketing their little gem.
Based in France, despite doing a lot of business in SA, the team at first employed an international design agency to do their adverts, branding and marketing. But they soon ran into trouble. They needed a local SA expert, who can negotiate better deals on print runs and creative, who can work as hard as they would (if they were here personally) to keep costs low and quality as high as possible.
So they brought in Swey Design because we’re a local Stellebosch design agency with all the necessary industry contacts and experience to get the best prices – and, of course, we know our wines. But we’re also experienced enough to be able to handle international contracts. And it’s an extremely good match.
SINCE WHEN HAVE SWEY BEEN DOING THE GRAPHIC DESIGN?
We started on the contract in late 2017 and early 2018, receiving briefs from France and executing everything right here in SA. It requires a great deal of skill to accurately coordinate communication about concepts and creatives across continents, but Peter Falke Wines have prefered Swey Design for the job ever since.
WHAT DOES SWEY DO EXACTLY?
We handle all the advertising creative for Peter Falke Wines. That includes print ads, brochures, posters, banners, social media creative, postcards and all the advertising around the wines and wine brand specifically. We’re in constant contact with the team in France, receiving briefs, executing and arranging all the printing and deliveries at the best possible prices.
We’ve also done the occasional wine packaging and label design – most notably, Swey did all the branding on the estate’s signature MCC.
